SME has a reputation for equipping students with optimal decision-making ability by focusing on the cultivation of professional knowledge and capabilities sought in the era of big data and Internet+ and on the learning and practice of mathematical modeling, data analysis and computer programming. Recent years have witnessed that SME students won 3 national-level first prizes and 5 national-level second prizes in CUMCM, 3 Outstanding Winner prizes and 5 Finalist prizes in MCM, 7 Outstanding Winner prizes in Educational Robot Competition in China (ERCC), 3 National Gold Award in China International College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, 2 national-level first prizes in the Citi Cup Financial Innovation Application Competition, 1 national-level first prize in the Dongfeng Nissan Cup “Tsinghua IE Sword” National Industrial Engineering Case Study Competition, 1 Creation Prize in the China International Industry Fair, and 1 Outstanding Solution Award (5th place worldwide) in the UNDP’s ‘Geek for Good’ Open Design Challenge.
SME actively develops international cooperation and relates to with the international practice in educational concepts, standards and resources. At present, it has established the Nanjing University Management Science and Engineering International Research Center and the Nanjing University-Oxford University Financial Innovation Institute. Besides, the School has collaborated with leading international universities with prestige in finance such as Stanford University, Oxford University, Cornell University, Purdue University, the University of Waterloo, the Frankfurt School of Finance and other universities.
SME has recruited adjunct professors including Nobel laureate economics professor Myron Scholes of Stanford University, Nobel laureate economics professor Robert J. Shiller at Yale University, Stanford University chair professor Peter Glynn, a member of the American National Academy of Engineering, Stanford University chair professor Yinyu Ye, winner of the John von Neumann Theory Prize, and Columbia University chair professor Xunyu Zhou. SME encourages undergraduate students to attend high-level academic lectures and actively supports students to participate in the university and SME organizes exchange activities at prestigious overseas universities, with about one third of the undergraduate students having the opportunity to participate in overseas exchanges every year.
SME also actively cooperates with enterprises and expands its practice training bases for students so as to cultivate their practical skills for solving major social issues. It makes full use of its strategic cooperation with large enterprises such as SUNING. COM, CCT Group and Zhong Zhu Zhi Yun enterprise to strengthen students' practical skills. What’s more, it has long been cooperating with financial institutions such as Shanghai Stock Exchange, Huatai Securities, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and Bank of China in long-term teaching and research, inviting industry experts to offer industry-embedded courses and cooperating with enterprises in terms of practical training.
