Relying on the faculty and resource strengths of various disciplines of Nanjing University in humanities, science, engineering and administration, Nanjing University Social Science and Big Data Computing Experimental Center carries out research on social science computing experimental systems, system modeling, functional design, experimental methods and applications through the innovative combination and integration of multidisciplinary approaches in natural and social sciences. Through years of pioneering and exploration, the center has achieved a series of research results on major social issues such as regional economy, social security strategy, and engineering management.
In recent years, the center has undertaken more than ten projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, two major foundation projects, one key foundation project, five projects of the National Social Science Foundation of China, and one major project of the National Science and Technology Support Program of the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan.” It has achieved two first prizes of the Scientific and Technological Progress Award by the Ministry of Education, one first prize for the National Defense Science and Technology Award of the National Defense Science and Industry Commission, and one first prize of the Philosophy and Social Science Award of Jiangsu Province. It has provided advice to the national and Jiangsu provincial governments on quite a number of projects on major social and economic development and security. It has also published a large number of high-quality academic books and dozens of high level academic papers in national and international authoritative academic journals.
The center pays special attention to the cooperation and exchange with universities at home and abroad and has long maintained academic cooperation with famous universities in the United States, Canada, Australia and Hong Kong, China. It has also established the “China Regional Development Monitoring Center” jointly with the National Bureau of Statistics and the National Information Center, and this center conducts research on regional socio-economic development in China.
