The Jiangsu Provincial Logistics Technology and Engineering Center is the only provincial level engineering center for logistics and supply chain management in Jiangsu Province. Affiliated with the School of Management and Engineering of Nanjing University, the center is founded by Jiangsu Provincial Government with the aim of turning research achievements into real productivity through the mechanism reform of technological innovation and the construction of public research platforms.

As its goal, the center is to be oriented by logistics and supply chain management technology and do continue engineering research and systematic integration on the marketable applied technological achievements. It is to develop generic technology, core technology and service platforms that have prospect in industrial production and to enhance their industrial application in order to make the best use of generic technology socially and economically.

Following the advanced management modal of an international research institute, the center has set up a committee of technology and management made up of logistics experts form fields of logistics and supply chain management, information technology, automation technology, and from research institutes, related departments of the government and renowned logistics enterprises. The committee is responsible for setting strategic goals, research orientation and management mode. Due to the leadership of this committee, the center has made remarkable achievements within a short period of time. The organizational structure of the center is as follows:

In strengthening the industry-university-research cooperation, the center has signed strategic cooperation agreements with large enterprises such as Jiangsu Mobile Communication, Hewlett-Packard and Hong Kong Epro and has undertaken logistics planning, design, technology development and personnel training for enterprises such as Five-Star Electric Equipment Company of Jiangsu Province, Nanjing Medicine Limited Liability Company, Nanjing Steel Company and Yangtze Oil and Chemical Company, and has made noticeable achievements.

The School of Engineering and Management of Nanjing University, with which the engineering center is affiliated, is a national leading point of masters programs in logistics, and it has been authorized by the Royal Institute of Logistics and Transport of Great Britain to jointly cultivate international management personnel in logistics. The school is devoted to training high-level logistics and management engineering professionals with equal emphasis on theory and practice, including post-doctoral, doctoral and master’s levels. At the same time, it has also achieved promising results in logistics and engineering management consulting services, engineering management projects, informationization and automation applications for various enterprises, such as logistics planning of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Transportation, logistics design of Qilu Petrochemical and Nangang, project management of Runyang Bridge, the real time logistics and production management system of some plants of Yangzi Petrochemical, the real time production management and resource management system of Daqing Oilfield Power Plant, Shenzhen Energy Mawan Power Plant and Nantong Tianshenggang Power Generation Company. Its work has been well received by users.

The engineering center will actively conduct national and international cooperation and communication by diverse forms. It creates open, dynamic mechanisms and favorable conditions to attract and absorb domestic and international researchers, along with their previous research achievements, to the center to do engineering research and experiments. It welcomes researchers from partner enterprises and other companies to participate in its research and development and its engineering work. The center attaches great importance to absorbing and cultivating young researchers and accomplished ones with overseas research experience.
