During the afternoon of December 14, 2022, Vice District Governor Feng Quan and Party Secretary of the Gu Lou High-tech Zone, Weng Zai Ning, visited the School of Management and Engineering at Nanjing University to discuss education, technology, and talent and to work on a strategic cooperation plan between the university and the local government. The meeting was attended by Chen Jianqun, Assistant to the President of Nanjing University, the leadership of the School of Management and Engineering, representatives of teachers, entrepreneurial alumni, and student representatives. The meeting was chaired by the Party Secretary of the School of Management and Engineering, Chen Zhiyun. The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the collaboration between the university and the local government in education, technology, and talent development.
Before the meeting, accompanied by Dean Yu Honghai, Dean of the School of Management and Engineering, the guests visited the office building, laboratories and classrooms of the College to learn about the history and achievements of the College. Dean Yu Honghai explained the entrepreneurial spirit of hard work and innovation and the culture of learning the way to reward reality to the group.
At the meeting, the participants watched the documentary Years are like a Song on the 20th anniversary of the founding of the School of Management and Engineering and reviewed the struggle of the school together.
Chen Jianqun delivered a speech on behalf of Nanjing University and welcomed the visit of Feng Quan and his delegation. In his speech, he fully affirmed the achievements of the School of Management and Engineering and expressed his expectation for this exchange forum. He said that the School of Management and Engineering is brave in practice, bold in breakthroughs and innovations, and after 21 years of development, it has made remarkable achievements in talent training, scientific research, social services and cultural heritage. In terms of discipline construction, the college has strengthened the concept of cross-fertilization and development of control and integration. In terms of talent training, it has created a complete structure and integrated and innovative diversified talent training system. In terms of scientific research, the school has aimed at the frontiers of disciplines and major national needs, and achieved a series of original results. The new round of double first-class construction needs to be guided by the national 14th Five-Year Plan strategic and urgent areas, to strengthen the adjustment of disciplines to match, and to encourage universities to take the initiative to dovetail with national and local needs. The cooperation between Gulou District and the School of Management and Engineering has a unique inherent advantage, with the successful cooperation example of China Storage and Intelligent Transportation in the past. In the future, based on the disciplinary characteristics of the School of Management and Engineering and the industrial advantages and policy support of Gulou District, it is hoped that both sides will further deepen the cooperation in key areas for sustainable development and play a more leading role as a model. The dialogue is expected to lead the way. He expects that today's dialogue will ignite a new paradigm of in-depth cooperation between the university and the district, promote the development of in-depth integration between the university and the district, achieve collaborative innovation and win-win cooperation, and provide strong support for accelerating the construction of the first Nanda University.
Chen Zhiyun welcomed the guests, saying that in the report of the 20th National Congress, General Secretary Xi Jinping had focused on education, science and technology, and talent, and made the important assertion that education, science and technology, and talent are the basic and strategic support for building a modern socialist country. It is hoped that the two sides can work together to promote education, science and technology based on the new mission and new journey in the new era.
During the exchange and discussion session, Dean Yu Honghai retraced the five special origins of the college and Gulou District. He said that the College's development has been nourished by the fertile soil of the Gulou District, which has a long history and a talented population. Thanks to the industrial advantages and policy support of Gulou District, the Institute of Supply Chain Innovation and Application has been created in cooperation in the early stage. Combining the latest discourses on education and science and technology, he introduced the scientific progress of the institute from the layout of disciplines and the organizational mechanism of scientific research, as well as the construction of an autonomous knowledge system and major applications of complex system management, theoretical research and practical exploration of Chinese capital markets and operation management based on behavior and data, and gave examples of the intellectual support provided by the institute for government decision-making and successful cases of digital intelligence empowering local economic development. He suggested the establishment of Nanjing Smart Reform and Digital Transformation Collaborative Promotion Centre, while targeting major needs such as supply chain, block chain, big data and financial technology to jointly shape new momentum and advantages for development through collaborative innovation and system integration.
Weng Zaining said that Gulou Hi-tech Zone and Nanjing University have a long history of relationship and cooperation with Nanjing University has penetrated into every aspect. The industrial positioning of Gulou Hi-tech Zone is software services, life and health, and science and technology financial services. Taking life health as an example, Gulou Hi-tech Zone has many universities and medical resources, and is committed to building a health ecosystem. The new era calls for new dynamic energy, and the high-tech zone is currently focusing on developing the digital economy and striving to become a national application demonstration zone; secondly, it is to make the blockchain pioneer industry bigger and stronger and build a demonstration zone for blockchain application scenes in Jiangsu province. We hope to rely on the advantages of the School of Management and Engineering in big data and blockchain, and strive to be the leader of school-local cooperation.
Feng Quan said in his concluding speech that the strategy of developing the country through science and education, the strategy of strengthening the country through talents and the strategy of innovation-driven development are all major national strategies proposed by the Party Central Committee that need to be adhered to for a long time. It is also the first important activity to be carried out in the near future. He said that the rich scientific and educational resources of the School of Management and Engineering and the profound cultural heritage of Gulou District had laid a good foundation for the cooperation between the two sides. We should take this opportunity to dig deep into the professional advantages of the School of Management and Engineering and the resource advantages of serving the society, build a platform for cooperation and complete this two-way running appointment together. He suggested giving full play to the unique advantages of the School of Management and Engineering in the management of complex systems, treating school-local cooperation as a complex project for in-depth study, exploring a new paradigm of school-local cooperation with the characteristics of Gulou District and the School of Management and Engineering, and striving to create a national benchmark for school-local cooperation.
