In order to enhance academic exchanges among doctoral students, develop their research horizons and improve their research capabilities, the 5th Xueshi Doctoral Academic Forum of School of Management and Engineering at Nanjing University was successfully held online in the afternoon of December 15, 2022. The theme of this year's forum was Implementing the Spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC and Practicing the New Financial Mission, focusing on the frontier academic issues in the field of financial technology and engineering. The forum was hosted by the School of Management and Engineering at Nanjing University and the Youth Committee of Jiangsu Operations Research Society, and presided over by Comrades Li Min and Pei Yiying from the Party Branch of Doctoral Students, with Associate Professor Fang Libing, Professor Yang Xuewei and Associate Professor Zhu Hongliang from the School of Management and Engineering as invited guests. More than seventy doctoral students from the School of Management and Engineering participated in this event online.
Professor Yang Xuewei from the School of Management and Engineering was invited to give an expert report at this year's forum. With the theme of Leverage is a double-edged sword, Prof. Yang Xuewei launched his speech, explaining the principle of financial leverage, sorting out the risks involved in financial leverage and making corresponding analysis on different types of investors in the financial market. Professor Yang Xuewei's insightful views brought much inspiration to the audience and sparked lively discussions and questions from students and teachers.
In this forum, three presenters shared their research work in turn from the aspects of research background, research ideas, model construction, empirical process and results, etc. Liu Yinong, a 20th-year direct doctoral student, shared his research work Inter-city Economic Linkages and Credit Spreads of Urban Investment Bonds - An Empirical Study Based on the Yangtze River Delta City Cluster. Chen Shi, a 21st-year PhD student, reported on his research work Can small-scale social networks survive in financial markets? He focused on small-scale social networks in financial markets and explored research issues related to competition in social networks. 21-year PhD student Taku Chen shared his research work Can Momentum Spillover Predict Market Returns? the findings of which showed the importance of investor underreaction in market return prediction.
The judges, Mr. Fang Libing and Mr. Zhu Hongliang, commented on the research background, methodological innovation and practical application, and management implications of each student's report, and made relevant constructive suggestions. At the same time, the three presenters also had a lively exchange and interaction with the audience in the online conference discussion forum.
At the end of the conference, the scholars and guests made anonymous evaluation of this doctoral forum based on the presentations, and selected the outstanding presenter of this forum - Chen Tuo, a 21-year doctoral student. At this point, the 5th Xueshi Doctoral Academic Forum of School of Management and Engineering of Nanjing University came to a successful conclusion.
